Monday

For our album cover, having decided on the most popular cover concept, I took to photoshop to begin creating the cover. Due to the messy, hand-drawn nature of the text, I borrowed a graphics tablet from the school's art department. This posed a slight challenge, as I had never used one before, but I quickly adapted and began to draw. After a few attempts, I managed to draw the band's name with it remaining legible. There are several blotches and thicker areas on the writing- this was intentional. Due to the red colour, this makes the text resemble blood- matching the disturbing imagery we intend to use in our music video.
I then moved on to drawing the centre of the cover.
We took the chemical compound of MDMA,  and designed the album artwork around it. By colouring the 'H', originally part of the compound, red we were able to incorporate the song name around it. The hand-drawn letters of the song name give it a clear contrast from the rest of the compound. I also drew black lines around all the images, as this will allow it to stand out more from the background.
Then, I started to look for a background.
After scrolling through google images, I found a non-copyrighted image that we could use for the background and inverted it. The image of urban decay matches the overall tone of the song. However, it still needed some work.
By editing the contrast, colour balance and brightness, I was able to create the image below. The brightly coloured and inverted image gives off an uncanny and surreal feeling. Again, this matches the dream-like feel of the song we chose, and the lyrics/videos focus on drug use.

This is good as a first draft of the album cover. At a later point, I will develop this into a more fleshed out, professional looking album cover- perhaps getting a real wall and painting the artwork onto it. This work will be useful when it comes to producing a final album cover, as it has allowed me to develop several ideas about it. In addition, we can use this design for producing the CD Digipack, or even in the set for the music video.

After developing our storyboard, we decided to use a physical version of our album cover in the video. As such, we had thought of how to properly create the cover. We intend to purchase some plywood. Then, using a boxcutter, we will cut the design into a large piece of card/paper, making a stencil of the image. We shall then place the stencil on the plywood, and spray paint over it- leaving the desired image painted onto the plywood. This will be a good prop for us to use in our video- furthermore, we can take the physical model and use it for the album cover, creating a much more visually appealing version of the image above.
